News
Your
telephone help line has new, extended hours. You can now ring
on Sundays between 9.00 and 12.00 noon and speak to a qualified
advisor. Go to "advice line" for contact times and
details of fixed price offer.

Increases to Statutory Rights from April 2010
Weekly rates of Statutory Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay rose from £123.06 to £124.88 on 6 April 2010.
The weekly rate of Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) remains unchanged at £79.15.
The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal falls from £66,200 to £65,300 from February 2010, due to a drop in the Retail Prices Index (RPI).
The Right to Request Time off for training
From April 2010, employees with 6 months or more service have the right to ask their Empoyer for time off to undertake training - providing the training requested is connected with their work. For more on this see the "Your other rights" section
Minimum Wage Increases
From October 2009 the minimum wage rates increased to the following levels - old figure in brackets:
- £5.80 ( £5.73) for Adult workers (22 and over)
- £4.77 (£4.83) (for those aged 18 to 21)
- £3.57 ( £3.53) under 18 but over school leaving age
The Minimum wage covers you if you are casual or work through an agency, and the latest rise means that if you are an adult working a 40 hour week, your salary must be a minimum of £12,064 a year.
Flexible Working extended
The Government has introduced the right to request Flexible Working (to care for a child or dependent adult) is to be extended to all employees who are parents of children up to, and including,the age of 16. The previous age limit was up to 6 years of age. It is estimated the 4.5 million more employees will qualify for the right to ask. This came into effect in April 2009.
New Maternity Rights
From 5 October 2008 women on maternity leave became entitled to the same benefits from their Employers whether on Ordinary (first 26 weeks) or Additional Maternity Leave, a further 26 weeks. Things like holiday pay, car, mobile phone etc. should now stay for all the maternity absence.
